Louise Smack Allen -- Louise Smack Allen, 95, passed away on Sunday, Feb. She graduated from Pocomoke City High School and subsequently held various clerical and retail positions.
4, 2018, at Transitions Life Care Hospice in Raleigh, N. After moving to Salisbury, Md., she worked as a jewelry buyer for Benjamin’s department store, relishing the New York City buying trips to make the season’s selections.
She also volunteered in Florida for Alzheimer’s care and grief care.
Sabina is survived by her son, Vincent Calabro of Laurel; her daughters, Diane Franciosa and Lois Calabro; a brother, Nicholas De Candia; her grandchildren, Claudia Farnciosa and Dianna Calabro; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are in the care of Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, Laurel.
Upon graduation in 1957, a football scholarship to UNC with Coach Jim Tatum, as well as running track, taught Bobby the difference between high school and university sports. Graduation from Atlantic Christian College in 1962 with a BS degree in history and physical education led to head football coach/teaching positions at West Stanley High School, Cherryville High School and North Hampton High School. His charisma, unconventional approach, steadfast commitment and love of simply having fun endeared him to students, staff and community members.
Upon his father’s death, he again realized academics as top priority.
She was also a member of the Secretaries Association for the State of Delaware.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Du Pont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington. 31, 1922, the youngest of three children born to Lola (Ennis) and Harvey Smack.Her love affair with jewelry persisted throughout her life.She enjoyed collecting jewelry and never removed the many special bracelets and rings gifted by her husband.In the 1940s, Louise worked at the Du Pont Company in Seaford, where she met the love of her life, Virgil Allen. 31, 1946 and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016, just two weeks after Virgil’s 100th birthday.Louise was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Seaford, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years.
